Artist's Statement

As a young local artist, I feel so pleased to be welcomed to exhibit here at Preston Manor. I have always had an interest in antiques and collectables that comes from the excitement I had when I was younger, bargain hunting at local boot fairs and junk shops here in Sussex.

Walking around Preston Manor I found myself exploring each room with curiosity. It filled me with pleasure and inspiration seeing so many beautiful objects.

I create small ‘poetic’ sculptures that cast new light on familiar and nostalgic objects, changing our perceptions of them. I use clear glass to communicate the memory of an object – the lost and the forgotten. I play with function; my sculptures suggest, but have no other use than sculpture, and this reflects the idea of the objects’ redundancy.

My glass is kiln formed and then individually polished by hand. I combine glass with other complementary and contrasting materials that relate back to the original object, forming an aesthetic focus. My work is subtle: finding beauty in simplicity of form and tone.
